Borderlands 4 – September 18th Update Brings Stability Fixes and Progression Improvements on PC

Gearbox has released the September 18th update for Borderlands 4, targeting stability and progression fixes with PC players in mind. While this patch improves performance and eliminates key quest-blocking bugs, balance changes to weapons and skills are being held back for a future update.

On PC, players should see fewer crashes and a more consistent experience across different hardware setups. Performance dips during co-op sessions and exploration of larger environments have been smoothed out, while several progression issues—such as quests failing to advance—have been resolved.

Although fans were hoping for weapon tuning and build adjustments, Gearbox confirmed those changes will arrive later as part of a broader balancing update.

Full Patch Notes – September 18th, 2025

Stability

  • Addressed multiple crash scenarios reported on PC.

  • Improved performance when loading into densely populated areas.

  • Fixed stuttering issues during extended co-op play sessions.

  • Enhanced stability across a wider range of hardware configurations.

Progression

  • Resolved issues where certain quests would not trigger correctly.

  • Fixed bugs that blocked story progression in specific missions.

  • Adjusted checkpoint saves to prevent softlocks in late-game encounters.

  • Smoothed out transition sequences between main campaign chapters.

Miscellaneous

  • Optimized memory usage for PC, reducing rare out-of-memory errors.

  • Improved overall matchmaking reliability.

  • Minor UI tweaks for quest-tracking on higher-resolution displays.

This update doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it does make Borderlands 4 far more stable and reliable for PC players. With fewer technical hiccups and smoother quest progression, fans can focus on the looting and shooting the series is known for.
