Hideo Kojima Believes AI Can Streamline Game Development
Hideo Kojima told WIRED he wants AI to handle repetitive development work, cutting time and costs while allowing creators to focus on storytelling and innovation.

In a recent interview with WIRED, Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima discussed how artificial intelligence could reshape the way games are developed. Kojima, known for pushing creative and technical boundaries, said he envisions AI taking over tedious and time-consuming tasks to help studios cut down on both production time and overall costs.
According to Kojima, much of game development involves repetitive work that slows down the creative process. He believes AI could automate these aspects, allowing developers to dedicate more time to storytelling, design, and the kind of world-building that gives his games their signature depth. However, he made it clear that he doesn’t see AI as a replacement for human creativity — rather, as a support tool to enhance it.
Kojima noted that technology has always played a key role in how he approaches projects, and integrating AI could be the next step in improving efficiency without sacrificing artistic quality. His comments reflect a growing trend in the industry as developers explore how AI tools might assist with animation, coding, and testing workflows.
Kojima Productions is currently working on multiple projects, including Death Stranding 2, which is expected to build on the studio’s reputation for innovation and cinematic storytelling.
